Do your part.
Stop the spread of COVID-19.

MARKHAM, ON – October 9, 2020 As cases of COVID-19 continue to rise in our community, it is important that we each do our part to keep one another safe. It is not the time to let your guard down. Your vulnerable friends and family are counting on you! Don’t put yourself and others at risk.

Here is how you can do your part to stop the spread of the deadly novel coronavirus:

Keep a safe distance from others.

Wear a mask or face covering in indoor public spaces or when keeping a safe distance from others is a challenge.

Be kind to those who are unable to wear a mask.*

Wash your hands with soap and water and/or use hand sanitizer frequently.

Sneeze and cough into your sleeve.
Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.

Download the Access Markham mobile app to get information and updates 24/7 from our COVID-19 Virtual Assistant.

Download Canada’s COVID Alert App to find out if you’ve been exposed to someone with COVID-19.

Throw your used masks, gloves and wipes in the garbage, not in our parks or open spaces.

How to properly wear a mask or face covering:

“The second wave is upon us and it is very important we continue wearing masks indoors and where physical distancing is not possible,” said Markham Mayor Frank Scarpitti.  “It is also important that all individuals, businesses and organizations take every precaution possible to ensure public safety. There is no doubt that Thanksgiving will feel a little different this year. We are asking residents to show restraint this Thanksgiving and limit gatherings to the immediate household or to meet virtually. The best way to be thankful for family members this Thanksgiving is to keep them safe.”

The City of Markham continues to monitor and follow advice from public health officials at the federal, provincial and regional levels. The City is taking a responsible and measured approach to reopening, which is guided by the Government of Ontario’s  Framework for Reopening the Province and the City of Markham’s  Response, Recovery & Reinvention Plan. The health and safety of our visitors, staff and the community remains our number one priority.

The City of Markham’s Contact Centre continues to respond to inquiries about municipal services and programs at customerservice@markham.ca and 905.477.5530, Monday to Friday between 8 AM and 5 PM.
